In April 23, 1862, Newell purchased the mill. Newell gave the sawmill, flour mill and 16 acres to his son William C. Newell on May 5, 1885. William improved the mill's efficiency by replacing the buhrstones with roller mills and adding a corn cob mill. Thomas Costello and Overman purchased the Newell's Mill on February 10, 1891.
Elias managed the mill until his death in 1866, when the mill's operations were assumed by his son Andrew. Andrew discontinued milling for the public in 1877, but continued operating the mill for the Staley Family until 1905 when the mill closed. Andrew was 74 years old and his eyesight was poor.
